World’s Largest Green Energy Park in India’s Khavda

Located in the Khavda region of Kutch, Gujarat, the Khavda Renewable Energy Park is set to become the world’s largest renewable energy park with a planned capacity of 30 GW. Built by Adani Green Energy Ltd (AGEL), the park spans 538 square kilometers—about five times the size of Paris and nearly as large as Mumbai—and is strategically positioned to harness both solar and wind resources. The Khavda region was selected for its high solar and wind potential, receiving approximately 2,060 kWh/m² of solar radiation annually, paired with consistent wind speeds of about 8 meters per second. The hybrid design of the park ensures that energy is consistently produced throughout the day, maximizing the utility of both solar and wind resources.

Cutting-Edge Technology and Infrastructure

AGEL has introduced state-of-the-art technology to the Khavda Renewable Energy Park, including India’s largest onshore wind turbines and bifacial solar panels, which capture sunlight from both sides to boost efficiency. The project also incorporates solar tracking technology that follows the sun’s path, optimizing energy capture. Furthermore, the plant’s operations are managed through Adani’s Energy Network Operation Center, which uses AI and machine learning for real-time monitoring, enabling a high level of operational efficiency.

The challenging desert terrain has been addressed with innovative techniques like soil stabilization through stone columns and corrosion-resistant materials to enhance the longevity of the infrastructure in harsh environmental conditions. Economic and Environmental Impact

Upon completion, the Khavda Renewable Energy Park will produce around 81 billion units of clean electricity annually, enough to power approximately 16 million homes. The project is anticipated to create over 15,200 jobs, contributing significantly to local economic growth. Environmentally, it will help avoid 58 million tons of CO₂ emissions each year—equivalent to removing about 12.6 million cars from the road or planting over 2.7 billion trees.

AGEL has also implemented supportive infrastructure for its workforce, including desalination and reverse osmosis plants for water supply, alongside a township for employees that features medical and recreational facilities. This project not only advances India’s renewable energy capabilities but also contributes to the development of the region by supporting local communities through education, healthcare, and infrastructure initiatives.
