China Creates ‘Super Diamond’ 40% Harder Than Natural Diamonds
Chinese scientists have synthesized hexagonal diamonds, or lonsdaleite, in the lab about 40% harder and more heat-resistant than natural diamonds. Formed from ultra-pure graphite under extreme pressure and heat, these crystals mimic rare meteorite structures. Currently microscopic, they hold promise for future industrial and semiconductor applications once large-scale, cost-effective production becomes feasible.
