Apple Reportedly Reduces Vision Pro Production Due to Weak Demand

Apple’s Vision Pro, the high-end mixed reality headset priced at $3,499, is reportedly facing a reduction in production due to weaker-than-expected demand. According to recent reports, the company has scaled back its manufacturing efforts, and some sources even suggest that production might halt entirely by the end of 2024.
The Vision Pro was initially seen as a pioneering device in spatial computing, but it appears to have struggled to capture a substantial market. Suppliers have produced enough components to build around 500,000 to 600,000 units, but with inventory levels remaining high, Apple has cut back on manufacturing since early summer. Some factories even stopped producing components as early as May, reflecting Apple’s adjusted sales forecasts.
However, this does not mean Apple is giving up on the Vision Pro concept. The company is reportedly working on more affordable models, with plans to release a version under $2,000 as early as 2025. Additionally, there are rumors of an upgraded Vision Pro slated for 2026, which might feature a more powerful processor and enhanced capabilities.
This shift highlights the challenges Apple faces in promoting high-priced AR/VR devices, even with its strong brand presence. Future iterations of the Vision Pro might address cost concerns to broaden its appeal, potentially leading to a more competitive presence in the market.
